The Florets - Paradise

Today we have the pleasure of sharing a first look at local DIY-pop crew The Florets’ new single ‘Paradise,’ another breezy psychedelic scope to their forthcoming debut album.
Following the release of the swarming ‘Tip Toe,’ the first single to their upcoming debut album, genre-bending Melbourne outfit The Florets are back with another psychedelic stew that’ll make your head whirl with its dose of psych-pop glam. The second and final single ‘Paradise,’ written in partnership with producer Chris Wright of Sunset Pig Records, is a massive swirl of glossy psychedelia that finds the perfect balance between the band’s evolving tendencies and garage-pop roots.

Littered with shimmering synths and pulsing beats, the anthemic ‘Paradise’ is a kaleidoscope of hazy and complex sounds. Speaking about the new single, the band said in a press release: “We had finished the production on the album and had envisioned the track [‘Paradise’] to be an instrumental break in the album. After playing around with the groove, we managed to hit a sweet spot and thought it too good of an opportunity to not lay down some vocals. This eventuated in ‘Paradise,’ a song about never being happy with what you have, even when you’re living in a perfect paradise.”

The new single is accompanied by a quirky music video directed by Rick Maxwell Douglas and was filmed at the old Ewaninga railway station. Throughout the video, we see scenes of a fearless lone cowboy named Bison who dances freely while wandering through a desert.

“With just a Canon 5D on hand, a Melbourne lockdown to avoid and the infinite beauty of Central Australia, ‘Paradise’ was able to be,” Maxwell said. “Snap lockdowns attempting to yet again thwart a Florets music video, we adapted on the fly, using their much appreciated freedom to come up with something completely new, straight from the brain-sack. ‘Paradise’ follows the salacious, yet troubled adventures of Bison; a lone cowboy dancing his way through a stunning dreamscape of desert, derelict buildings and golden light. The stuff of dreams, or nightmares, pending personal taste.”
'Paradise' is out officially this Friday, ahead of the release of The Florets' forthcoming debut album. They will also be launching ‘Paradise’ on Friday August 27th at The Tote, with support from Department and Property.
